About
Iftikhar Ahmed plays cricket for Pakistan internationally. He is one of the Pakistan National Cricket Team’s eleven players in the T20 format. He has previously played for Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. In November 2015, he made his debut for the Pakistan cricket team internationally.
Early life
Iftikhar Ahmed was born into a Pashtun family in Peshawar, Pakistan. Iftikhar Ahmed constructed a cricket stadium in his hometown to foster the growth of the local talent.
Domestic career
In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy competition that took place in 2017–18, he scored 735 runs for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited across eleven matches.
In the championship game of the 2016–17 Regional One Day Cup, which took place on January 27, 2017, he hit 131 not out and got three wickets while only allowing 12 runs. Along with Gauhar Ali, he was given the honour of being named man of the match. In the Pakistan Cup in 2017, he scored 244 runs across four games for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making him the tournament’s best run-scorer.
It was announced in April 2018 that he would be playing for Sindh in the 2018 Pakistan Cup.
In Sindh’s first encounter of the tournament, which they won by 12 runs against Balochistan, he hit 116 runs and was awarded the man of the match. His performance helped Sindh win the match.
During the competition, he played in all four of Sindh’s games and scored 230 runs, which was more than anyone else.
Iftikhar Ahmed scored 660 runs over the course of seven matches in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, making him the team’s best run-scorer. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited won the trophy. He was given a spot on the Punjab team that would compete in the 2019 Pakistan Cup back in March.
In September of 2019, he was given a spot on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team that will compete in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament in 2019–20.
During the 2021–22 National T20 Cup, which took place in October 2021, he was the driving force behind Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s successful championship defence. For his efforts, he was honoured with the player of the final and the player of the tournament awards.
T20 franchise career
In September of 2018, he was given a spot on Kandahar’s roster for the tournament that was the inaugural iteration of the Afghanistan Premier League.
Iftikhar Ahmed scored his first Twenty20 century in January 2023 while competing in the 2022–23 Bangladesh Premier League for Fortune Barishal. The match was part of the Bangladesh Premier League.
During a Twenty20 competition in February 2023, Iftikhar scored an unbeatable 94 runs off of 50 balls by hitting six sixes in a single over. This unforgettable performance is the shining moment of his professional career.
International career
During their two-day match against England in October 2015, he led Pakistan A in scoring and was the top scorer overall. During the same tour, on November 13, 2015, he made his debut in the One Day International competition. On August 11, 2016, he played his first test match against England.
Iftikhar Ahmed was included in Pakistan’s squad for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament when it was first announced, but he was eventually left off the team due to his poor performance.
However, on March 4, 2016, Iftikhar Ahmed made his debut for Pakistan in a Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka while competing in the Asia Cup.
In September 2019, Iftikhar Ahmed was selected to be a part of Pakistan’s 16-man squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka. It was announced that he and two other players would be rejoining the team. In May 2020, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) presented him with a central contract in preparation for the upcoming season of 2020–2021.
In June 2020, he was selected to be a part of Pakistan’s 29-man squad that would travel to England as part of their tour during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Iftikhar Ahmed took his first five-wicket haul in one-day international cricket on November 1, 2020, in the second series match against Zimbabwe.
