Today will mark the beginning of the first elimination round for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoffs, featuring a matchup between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi. At the same time, the victor will advance to the next round of eliminations to take on Lahore Qalandars in hopes of earning a spot in the championship match.
Zalmi will go into this match to maintain their recent success, as they were victorious over Islamabad in their most recent match. The previous year, Peshawar was eliminated from the competition at this stage after suffering a loss at the hands of the same opponents. They will come into this new attempt intending to bounce back and move on to the subsequent stage.
During the campaign, United lacked consistency and needed to perform up to its normal standards. They will be hoping that a location change can also bring a change in their fortunes and enable them to qualify for the second eliminator. If they are successful in this endeavor, they will be able to play Lahore Qalandars in a replay of the eliminator that took place the previous year.
Zalmi ended in fourth place in the PSL standings with a record of five wins and five defeats, while Islamabad finished in third place in the PSL points table with six wins and four losses from their ten matches. Both teams will go into the match to win to advance further in the PSL playoffs.
